Chelsea Green has officially been cleared to return to in-ring action. Nevertheless, the WWE Women’s Champion will need to take extra precautions when she returns to SmackDown. The clearance came several weeks after Green suffered the legitimate orbital fracture on the August 7 episode of SmackDown. On the September 4 episode of WWE SmackDown, General Manager Nick Aldis confirmed that Green had received medical clearance to defend her title. However, WWE medical staff made it clear that the champion had to follow a protocol while wrestling because of her recent orbital bone injury. Chelsea Green’s WWE SmackDown return comes with a condition she must follow Aldis came to the ring with Dr. Woodruff to give an update on Green’s condition. The champion was then called to the ring to discuss the situation. Nevertheless, Green said that she had little interest in hearing what the doctor had to say. Green insisted that fans would not see her feeling sorry for herself. Instead, she said they would see a WWE Women’s Champion who intended to fight for her title. She recalled Aldis previously telling her that she would be a fighting champion and stated that she did not want her injury to change that. The champion also acknowledged that holding the title meant having a major target on her back. However, Green said she didn’t feel strongly about her safety. Her priority was on her legacy. Aldis responded by saying that he had concerns about Green’s safety. However, the decision about whether she could wrestle was not his to make. That responsibility belonged to WWE’s medical team. Dr. Woodruff then gave the official update on Green’s condition. He explained that the orbital bone Green had fractured was healing. Based on his medical assessment, Green earned medical clearance to compete as long as she wore a protective face mask. With Green now medically cleared, Nia Jax interrupted the segment and once again demanded her shot at the WWE Women’s Championship. She came out with Lash Legend and threatened Green, making it clear that she was ready to cause even more damage if the champion refused to give her a match. Before Jax and Legend could take things further, Tiffany Stratton rushed to the ring to make the save. Stratton fought off both challengers and stopped Green from getting overwhelmed. Aldis then made the championship match official. Chelsea Green will defend the WWE Women’s Championship against Nia Jax next week on SmackDown in Mexico City. However, Stratton faced Jax right after the announcement. Jax defeated her in that bout thanks to some interference from Legend. Following the match, Jax tried to get on Green’s face and removed her mask. This angered Green even more and she went in the ring to confront The Irresistible Forces.
