Tottenham star Conor Gallagher has answered Roberto De Zerbi plea in the best possible way
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Conor Gallagher will want to do more of the same after his goal against Getafe CF
Conor Gallagher scored his first goal of pre-season against Getafe CF on Saturday and Roberto De Zerbi will be hoping it is the first of many in the 2026/27 season.
Tottenham were held to a 1-1 draw against the La Liga side at Hotspur Way, with Gallagher equalising five minutes after Alberto Risco put the visitors in front with 55 minutes on the clock. After Sandro Tonali played a forward pass to Richarlison, Gallagher found himself running through on goal. The midfielder took one touch with the outside of his right boot and then rifled the ball into the bottom left corner.
Although the game finished 1-1, it means Spurs are yet to be beaten in pre-season having played five matches so far, with Gallagher a constant in the side over the past few weeks.

Before the friendly against Getafe, Mateus Fernandes, Dane Scarlett, Richarlison, Sandro Tonali and Mathys Tel had all got on the scoresheet in pre-season. Gallagher joined that list on Saturday and De Zerbi would have been thrilled given the comments he made on the former Atletico Madrid man last week.
Asked where he thinks Gallagher can develop, the Italian said: "I consider Conor a top player, a top guy. Because sometimes you don't know the people, but inside the dressing room, I think it's more important to be a good guy, a right person than a good player.
"And he's both a good player and a good guy. Maybe in the last third of the pitch, he has more quality than he thinks or maybe than he's showing now. He can score more goals. But when Conor is good, in a good condition, I said last season and I repeat, we play with one player more because he's like two players."
It would have pleased De Zerbi then that Gallagher responded by doing exactly what he asked: scoring. The 26-year-old netted just once for the Lilywhites last campaign and he will want to improve those numbers going into the new campaign.
The former Chelsea man has previously expressed his love for scoring goals, too. "I feel like runs into the box I’m good at, and I can win the ball back well and press well," Gallagher said in 2022 when asked what he feels he is good at.
"I like to score goals, and I want to score more. I can be more aware on the ball in deeper areas and have a better vision sometimes. There’s loads of things, and I could go on for ages, but I’m very determined to work hard and improve as a footballer still."
Next up for Tottenham is a double header against Bundesliga side TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Gallagher will no doubt have his eyes set on scoring another goal when he next takes to the field.
