Club insider has provided an update on why Dominic Solanke missed the friendly vs. Getafe. Tottenham Hotspur shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Getafe in a behind-closed-doors game at Hotspur Way on Saturday afternoon. Getafe took the lead in the 66th minute when Alberto Risco volleyed past Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. Roberto De Zerbi’s side responded moments later with Conor Gallagher’s neat finish following a good run. We came close to clinching the match late on, with Richarlison’s header saved by Getafe goalkeeper David Soria. Among those not involved in the behind-closed-doors friendly against Getafe were Martin Dubravka, Kevin Danso, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr, Mateus Fernandes, James Maddison and Dominic Solanke. It has now been revealed why Dominic Solanke missed the game on Saturday. Reason revealed why Dominic Solanke was absent vs. Getafe According to reliable club insider Szyexcl on X, Solanke felt pain in his ankle during the week and was left out of today’s friendly as a precaution. This isn’t the first time the Spurs striker has had an issue during the pre-season tour. The 28-year-old missed the friendly against Sydney FC last month, with journalist Chris Cowlin later revealing that Solanke was limping into the hotel a day before in training. The England international played just 15 Premier League games last season after an ankle injury last August kept him out of action until January. During that time, he missed 33 games. Solanke returned to action in the second week of January, and then he got injured again by the end of the campaign. The striker sustained a hamstring injury against Wolves at Molineux in April before returning to action in pre-season last month. It must be extremely frustrating for Solanke to keep enduring little knocks and ankle-related issues. The English striker underwent ankle surgery last year to fix an ankle issue that was bothering him since the second half of the 2024/25 campaign. Yet, the problem apparently persists. De Zerbi and the club’s medical department have to find a solution for Solanke’s recurring ankle-related concerns. The player will hope to overcome his fitness troubles going forward, but is also a reminder to the club’s hierarchy that they need to bring in a new No.9 quickly. De Zerbi and his coaching staff simply cannot rely on Solanke to keep fit and contribute regularly to the team. Tottenham have to prioritise signing a striker in the final weeks of the transfer window. Clearly, Solanke’s move has not worked out according to plan as he has not had the desired impact at White Hart Lane since arriving from Bournemouth in 2024. There has been little to suggest he will be leaving, but the club chiefs cannot take things lightly and invest in a reliable striker quickly.
