Mikel Arteta offered updates of team news for Arsenal as they host Chelsea this weekend.
The Gunners saw two Premier League debutants in their 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on Monday evening. Bruno Guimaraes came on for Myles Lewis-Skelly in the midfield, and Ezri Konsa came on for the injured Cristhian Mosquera as the right sided central defender.
Both men are likely to be present in the matchday squad on Sunday afternoon, and there could be a start for Konsa at the back. The two Premier League debutants in their 1-0 victory gave the Spaniard fresh options.
·‘Jurrien is in really good condition at the moment’
There were also words spoken about two longer-term absentees for Arsenal. William Saliba suffered a worsening back problem during the World Cup that culminated in his early substitution against Spain in mid-July.
He will be waiting for a while until he can restore his partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes, but Jurrien Timber is getting closer to returning to action from his niggling groin issue.
“[Bruno] had a knock against Villa in the previous game and he’s being assessed. Hopefully [Saturday], he will be okay for training.
“For Cristhian, it was more precaution than anything else, so we’ll have to see in the session [Saturday] how he feels. Ezri is certainly available in the squad.
“We’ll see when we make our selection.
“Jurrien is in really good condition at the moment, he’s been a few weeks on the pitch and has been training with us, so he’s in a really good place. We will decide [on his involvement on Sunday] after training [on Saturday].
·No timeline on Saliba return
“We don’t really know the amount of weeks Wilo is going to be out. It’s about a healing process and everything is a bit different - we know we have to respect certain timings. Progression has been really positive in the last few weeks, but we need to wait and see how that one reacts when we start to put some load into it.”
