Rangers and Celtic learn eye-watering transfer fee needed to sign summer target as records may need shattered
Both Rangers and Celtic are after the same winger this summer transfer window.
Rangers and Celtic have been told what is needed to sign an attacking target this summer - with the former out the race amid an eye-watering price tag.
A winger is something both clubs appear on the lookout for and Frosinone’s Fares Ghedjemis is one on the radar of many across Europe. He shone in Serie B to attract widespread transfer interest, including from both sides of Glasgow’s Premiership sides, Celtic interest dating back to the winter window. Rangers have since entered the race as the champions spark up their advances again.
Both could be stopped in their tracks though by claims a staggering £17m approximately will be needed to convince Frosinone to sell up ahead of their Italian top flight return. That has put the Light Blues off, it’s claimed, but there is no assessment on what Celtic think of spending what would be a record fee for both sides. The latter have already broke it this summer when signing Kasper Hogh for £11m plus add-ons while Tore Andre Flo remains Rangers’ at £12 million.
Fares Ghedjemis to Rangers and Celtic transfer latest
Foot Mercato state: “Having been promoted to Serie A with Frosinone and voted the best player in the Italian second division last season (37 matches, 15 goals, 3 assists), Farès Ghedjemis is attracting considerable interest. Rangers appreciate his profile, as does AS Monaco, who would like to make him Maghnes Akliouche's successor on their right flank.
“According to our information, the Italian club has already rejected an offer of €7 million, plus €2 million in bonuses, from Monaco. As you might have guessed, Frosinone has no intention of selling its player cheaply and has reportedly rejected two other offers of €10 million from Celtic Glasgow and Rangers, according to the British press.
“According to our information, Frosinone is now asking for €20 million for its 23-year-old winger, who arrived from Rouen for €300,000 on a 2024 transfer. This sum has deterred several clubs, including Rangers. The Algerian international, called up by Vladimir Petkovic for the last World Cup with the Fennecs, is under contract in Italy until 2028.”
Hogh and Camillo Duran have already upgraded the Celtic attack while Rangers have also made a slate of attacking moves as part of their summer rebuild under new boss Derek McInnes. Striker Lawrence Shankland has been named captain with Daisuke Yokota signed out wide but more attacking reinforcements are expected at Ibrox. The Hoops defeated Kilmarnock 5-1 in the Premiership on Sunday and their rivals lost 2-1 versus Hibs.
