Bradley Barcola concern emerges for PSG ahead of Super Cup as Liverpool chases transfer
A Bradley Barcola concern has emerged for PSG ahead of its Super Cup clash against Aston Villa, with Liverpool still chasing a transfer for the $193M (£145M)-rated winger
Bradley Barcola could miss PSG's UEFA Super Cup clash against Aston Villa on Wednesday through illness as Liverpool continues to chase the France forward's signature.
PSG, the Champions League winner, will take on Aston Villa, the Europa League winner, at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg. But Barcola has missed some training sessions this week, despite now being back from his post-World Cup holiday.
According to L'Equipe, Barcola is unlikely to feature much in the game, as a result. However, Ousmane Dembele, Lucas Hernandez, Lucas Digne, Desire Doue, Achraf Hakimi and Fabian Ruiz, who have not long returned either, are all expected to be involved.
Barcola is currently valued at as much as $193 million (£145 million) by PSG, which Liverpool views as an excessive amount.
But the Parc des Princes outfit has already wrapped up the signing of Maghnes Akliouche. PSG is also chasing Ferran Torres and Mika Godts, and should it get those two deals over the line, it would surely be more open to letting Barcola go.
Luis Enrique would rather keep Barcola, but the player wants a bigger role and will not sign a new contract. Liverpool can offer him a position in the team immediately.
Victor Munoz has already come in from Osasuna, but Liverpool is yet to replace Mohamed Salah. Andoni Iraola needs more quality in wide areas before the September 1 deadline.
"(Barcola's) obviously very good, but he's going to come at a massive price," Michael Owen told GOAL earlier this week.
"I don't think they have to win it. There are other great players out there.
"You know what I would have done a couple of months ago if I was Liverpool — that's try to do everything to sign Jarrod Bowen. I can't believe he's going to be desperate to play in the Championship.
Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
"Looks like he is now, whatever he's done. To replace Salah, I thought that could have been a good move.
"Barcola is obviously top class, but he's going to come at a price. There's obviously other great players around the world.
"It's one that you can definitely see because they absolutely need some talented wide players. It's not always that these players come available.
"If he is available and it's an easy one to do, barring the big price tag, then yes, I can see that one being pushed by Liverpool."
