PSG 'close to verbal agreement' as Bradley Barcola to Liverpool transfer path clears
Paris Saint-Germain is said to be nearing a verbal agreement to sign a possible replacement for Bradley Barcola, with Liverpool still hoping to wrap up a transfer deal for the 23-year-old
Paris Saint-Germain is in the "final stages" of sealing a transfer move for the Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, with Liverpool's interest in acquiring France star Bradley Barcola ongoing.
According to Fabrizio Romano, an official bid worth around $58 million (£43 million) has been lodged for Torres, 26, which is likely to be enough to see him move to Paris to play for Luis Enrique. Barcelona is open to the idea of him departing.
In addition to Torres, PSG is also considering the Ajax winger Mika Godts. It has already sold Goncalo Ramos and Lee Kang-in this summer to AC Milan and Atletico Madrid respectively.
So far, Liverpool has been unable to agree on a fee with PSG for Barcola. But adding in Torres and potentially Godts too would surely ease the necessity to keep hold of the 23-year-old.
Barcola is open to joining Liverpool and though his valuation is sky-high, he is unwilling to sign a new deal at PSG. There are two years remaining on his existing contract.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk spoke about the need for more depth in the Reds' team before the September 1 transfer deadline this weekend.
He was asked about the imminent arrival of Ronald Araujo, who is set to sign on loan from Barcelona.
"Any player that will arrive to the club, we will be welcoming," Van Dijk said. "I have no idea if (Araujo) has been announced, or I have not seen him, so let’s see.
"Let’s see what the next couple of weeks are going to bring. Any quality we can add to the team will definitely be welcome, so let’s see."
In addition to Barcola, Liverpool is also considering a move for the PSG winger Ibrahim Mbaye. The 18-year-old is another who could be allowed to depart should replacements arrive.
Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
The Reds are set to take on Newcastle in under two weeks when the new season kicks off. Liverpool plays five games in total before the September international break begins.
Liverpool.com says: Barcola coming in feels like a must at this point in the summer. Victor Munoz looked bright when he came on against Monaco, but Andoni Iraola needs more.
Rio Ngumoha cannot be overly-relied upon and Cody Gakpo had a tough season last time out. Both should improve, but Barcola is a world-class player in the making.
