Mohamed Salah sent blunt warning after incredible Trabzonspor greeting
The Liverpool legend was given a hero's welcome after signing a deal with Trabzonspor, but now he must deliver
Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah has been warned that he must now deliver the level of performance that his incredible welcome warranted after joining Turkish club Trabzonspor.
The Egyptian winger brought the curtain down on his stellar Liverpool career three months ago after nine seasons at Anfield, where he won eight major trophies, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League, scoring 257 goals in the process.
Salah had been expected by many to make a big-money move to Saudi Arabia and also had reported interest from the MLS, but instead, he sprung a surprise by joining the Turkish Super Lig outfit.
The 34-year-old received a hero's welcome on arrival, first at Trabzon airport, before officially greeting thousands of fanatical supporters at the club's Papara Park Stadium, where he was officially unveiled.
Salah's former Chelsea teammate, John Obi Mikel, spent a season with Trabzonspor towards the end of his own career and has warned Egypt captain that he will need to live up to the expectations bestowed on him, otherwise fans could turn very quickly.
Speaking to Turkish outlet Sabah (as cited by Soccernet.ng), Mikel said: “Trabzonspor is a really good club, the people live and breathe football. It's a football city."

The Black Sea club is known for welcoming new players at the airport, but Mikel insisted that Salah's arrival was even more significant, while adding an important caveat.
“But this time, it was different,' he added. "It was thousands of people that came out to welcome Mo Salah, it was absolutely crazy.
“The people in the city will worship you if you're playing well and winning games. They turn on you quickly, they don't care who you are or where you are from.
“I hope it works out well for him and his family, that they feel comfortable and enjoy the city. Because one thing is for sure, if he keeps performing and playing well for that city, they would absolutely worship him.”
Salah's arrival is expected to benefit Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu, who finished last season as the Super Lig's join top scorer on 22 goals.
The former Reds No.11 could only find the net seven times in the Premier League last season, the only time he failed to score double figures for league goals in nine seasons at Anfield. His previous lowest tally was 18.
