Hull KR head coach Willie Peters has asserted that the goal of the season has not changed and that his side are still chasing silverware, though he’s conceded that the club have to make it into the play-offs first. The Robins are in danger of becoming just the fourth Super League champion side to miss out on the play-offs the following year, though they do still control their own destiny. A win tonight against Huddersfield Giants would secure their top six berth and there is even a scenario where they can land a home semi-final, albeit a very unlikely one. Beating Huddersfield is no longer a simple task with the Giants one of the form teams in Super League and Peters has stressed that tonight is the most important game of the season so far, simply by merit of it being the next one. He also argued that across the four years of his tenure, and particularly last year, there is still enough evidence for the Robins to believe that they can upset the odds and win the Grand Final, something that the bookmakers now put as a 50/1 chance. “For us now, the evidence has been there that we can do it,” Peters said when asked if he’d seen enough evidence to offer the belief his side are still capable of a Grand Final repeat. “We’re in a situation now that we’re still fighting to get in the six. There’s been some times this year that we’ve had performances that we haven’t been proud of and accept that. “We want to finish this year and get to the highest possible point and that hasn’t changed. That’s winning silverware. I’ve never been shy from saying that and that’s what we still want to achieve but we need to make sure we’re there first.” Winning this week will ensure that they’re in with a shot and it would ensure they avoid a possible shootout versus St Helens next week, leading Peters to note: “The most important game is this week. I feel that there’s enough evidence there over the course of four years that we can draw a lot from. There’s enough to draw from this year, as well in certain times even though we haven’t reached the heights we were last year.”
