Roma are reportedly close to agreeing a form of co-ownership deal with FC Porto for Rodrigo Mora, paying €25m now and with a clause to buy the other 50 per cent for a set €25m in 2027.
Co-ownership deals used to be commonplace in Italian football, but were banned several years ago.
Now they have crept back in, using the form of clubs retaining a 50 per cent cut of the future sale fee.
Roma pave path for Mora
Multiple sources including Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia confirm this is the approach that Roma are using with FC Porto to get attacking teenager Mora.
The idea would be to pay €25m now with Porto retaining 50 per cent of the sale in future.
However, Roma are eager to include a clause guaranteeing they can wipe that out at a fixed cost of a further €25m in the summer of 2027.
This would give the Giallorossi more control over the total cost of the operation, in case Mora’s value on the market should sky-rocket in the next year.
In turn, they wouldn’t lose too much in case the Portuguese talent doesn’t develop and can be sold off.
