Today we present to you the Ridly Greig point projections as we attempt to decipher just how many points to expect from him in this upcoming 2026-27 NHL campaign. Greig is a tough player to predict, and we shall explain why. However, and this has been a theme with a few of the Ottawa Senator players so far, there is a reasonable possibility of a breakout season offensively. Allow us to explain. You already know, let’s get sensational.
The Sens Ridly Greig Point Projections for 2026-27
Of the Sens players we have explored so far, we thought that the likes of William Eklund, Shane Pinto, and even Tim Stutzle have the potential for breakouts. The problem with this theory is, from a probabilistic standpoint, the chances that a number of players on the same team have bigger than usual seasons, would be extremely rare. Of course, the great equalizer would be the injury factor, but there are other reasons, too. In contrast, given some of the year-over-year roster changes, it may allow slightly different deployment scenarios for those returning, and it does make the possibilities as a whole very intriguing.
Finding Greig’s Archetype
Ridly Greig strikes us as one of those players that keeps getting better until he puts it all together. Not everybody is Sidney Crosby, who put up his best career season in his second year in the league. Consider someone like Sam Bennett. Maybe a bit of a different background, considering he was drafted fourth overall (back in 2014), but Greig himself was a first-round pick (28th overall in the Sens big 2020 NHL Entry Draft). Bennett only hit is career high in points last year with 58 at the age of 29.
Another example might be the likes of Mason Marchment, and a little different in that he is a big body, and took a while to grow into his game. Moreover, for Marchment, who’s rookie year came in 2020-21 at the age of 25, and his best year was 53 points as a 28-year-old. Some guys just take longer adding the consistent offensive element to their game at the NHL level. Actually, Drake Batherson is another example, as at the age of 28 right now, he has scored more points in every NHL season, than the one prior so far.
Now for Greig’s Individual Play and Deployment
The one thing that mitigates the Ridly Greig point projections from being too high, is the fact that he tends to be on the top penalty killing unit, along with Shane Pinto. There has been some rumours that he could find more playing time on the top power play unit. Being a left-hand shot, who can play net front, there is the possibility he gets more time on the man advantage. Also, guys like Warren Foegele or Michael Amadio could fill in for Greig on the penalty kill. What this means is a slight shift in his deployment, for slightly more offensive opportunities. This idea could increase his offensive scoring rate.
Last year Greig was seventh among Sens forwards at a 12 percent of shift starts in offensive zones. In addition, he was third in defensive zone starts at 14.5 percent. It is unlikely he sees a big shift to more offensive zone time, considering he did spend a lot of time on a more offensively-minded line combination with Dylan Cozens and Brady Tkachuk. However, there is a good chance he plays top-six minutes again this year, and last year’s experience will only be a benefit. As a reminder, that line was very successful, in nearly 320 minutes played on ice together, they had an expected goal percentage of 65.6.
Now, let’s try to narrow in on his statistics, and make our prediction based on how they should correlate to final total points. His shooting percentage was a 10.2 last year, off his career high from 13.4 percent in 2023-24. We would anticipate a bit of a bump in his points, based on raising his shooting percentage a bit as he continues to grow and develop. As we suggested, some players like Greig take time to develop the offensive side of their game, and to produce at a consistent standard.
Ridly Greig Point Projections Summary
In addition, we think his total ice time is up at bit, as he was at 16:42 a night last year, and 15:56 over the course of his career. This is to be taken with some caution, as we have mentioned with a few other players, as ice time is tough to come by in the Sens forward group. But with a small increase in total ice time, and as we discussed, a slight shift in his deployment towards a more offensive deployment, along with more experience within the top six, we think he is able to increase his point total, as a result.
The Last Word
Greig scored 13 goals in each of the last three seasons. Pretty good consistently if you ask us. We think he finds a way to break through, and land between 15 and 20 this year. Also, he had 21 and 22 in each of the last two seasons, respectively. Therefore, it makes sense he can hit a similar mark in that area, so say between 20 and 25. We see the potential of him to get near 50 total points this year, but it won’t be easy. His career best is 35 from last year, so we can’t make too big of a leap. Let’s keep it conservative, and use our thinking from the addition of goals and assists, with removing the overlapping correlation factor. His final 2026-27 point prediction is between 40 and 45. Also, just as a reminder Greig misses the first two regular season games of the season serving a suspension handed down from the Stanley Cup Playoffs in game four versus the Carolina Hurricanes.
