AC Milan have made the decision to allow Zachary Athekame to head out on loan, picking Lyon as his destination. With three weeks of the window left, it seems we are finally set to start seeing some movement in Milan’s transfer window. Despite attention on the centre-back and playmaker roles, it is at wing-back where the next business could happen. Read SempreMilan ad-free and get access to exclusive news. Calciomercato.com confirm that Swiss international Zachary Athekame is set to join Lyon on loan, the club coached by Portuguese Paulo Fonseca, who previously work at Milan and Roma. The Rossoneri management preferred to send him to France on loan rather than to England on a permanent basis. In this sense, an offer from Hull City – a club newly promoted to the Premier League – was rejected. Athekame is under contract with Milan until June 2030 with a salary of €1m net per year. He arrived last summer for €10m from Young Boys (who have a 10% resale clause) and in his first season in Italy he made 29 appearances with 2 goals, 2 assists and 4 yellow cards. Zach to Zak? Meanwhile, Milan are targeting Zakaria El Ouahdi. The Moroccan international is under contract with Genk until June 2028, and the Belgian side are asking for €15m for him according to Sky. So far for the Belgian club he has made 113 appearances with 20 goals, 12 assists, 23 yellow cards and one red card. He has four appearances for the senior Moroccan national team, including one in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, which they lost 2-0 to France on 9 July. Alternative routes include Chile international Dario Osorio, playing for Danish side Midtjylland, and the Englishman at Genoa, Brooke Norton-Cuffy.
