HSV Hamburg chief scout Sebastian Dirscherl has explained how they secured a deal for Wolves defender David Møller Wolfe late in the window. Loan deal The 24-year-old is spending the season on loan with the Bundesliga side, having fallen down the pecking order at Molineux this season. He joined Wolves last year in a €12m deal but is now behind Hugo Bueno in Wolves’ plans, so has been allowed to depart this summer. Sport Witness have already covered his agent discussing how difficult the deal was to get over the line. Now Dirscherl has explained how HSV got the deal over the line. According to him, the move was long in the making. “We’ve known David since his time in Norway. He quickly made an impression at Alkmaar and continued to develop through U21 international matches, which are a key focus for us,” he said. “He wasn’t a financially viable option for us (when he joined Wolves),” the scout said, before explaining that HSV maintained contact with his agent “to see if a door might open at some point when the timing was right.” Opportunity seized That moment arrived this summer and the German club jumped at their opportunity. “We were patient and persistent,” he added. “Of course, we were scouting several left backs. Still, there is a system of priorities. David played in a World Cup, which always serves as a showcase. It was clear that nothing would happen before then. “The ‘Wolves’ also needed to secure a replacement first. That’s why it was my job to keep other options alive. A transfer wouldn’t have been possible earlier. At the same time, we would have still been able to react if it hadn’t worked out.”
