| Valencia Eyeing Van Oevelen Loan Tuesday, 11th Aug 2026 16:24 Valencia are interested in signing Blues keeper Kayne van Oevelen on loan, according to a Spanish report. The La Liga club were keen on recruiting the 23-year-old on a permanent basis prior to his move to Town from Volendam but, despite having agreed personal terms, had been unable to settle on a fee with the Eredivisie side. However, according to Levante EMV, Valencia have now revived their interest, wanting to sign Van Oevelen on loan for the season and have made contact with his representatives. When Van Oevelen was signed in late July, the Blues were looking to send him out on loan for the season to a Championship club. That plan was put on hold when Christian Walton suffered a foot injury in training, but manager Gary O’Neil said at the weekend that the former Brighton man is close to a return and will be with the squad which travels to Germany on Wednesday for a mini-training camp and friendly at Union Berlin on Saturday. Town may now be willing to allow Van Oevelen, who has signed a five-year deal, out for the season in order to play regularly and gain further senior experience. Championship sides Bolton Wanderers, Millwall, Wrexham and Middlesbrough were all previously linked with loan interest in Van Oevelen, although since then Boro have brought in Manchester United’s Radek Vitek and the Welshmen have since signed Anthony Patterson from Sunderland. | Pessimistic added 17:08 - Aug 11 He is destined to be the Town number one, but going out on loan might help him if he is not selected for Sunderland. | |

| LegendofthePhoenix added 17:18 - Aug 11 I have a feeling Kayne may turn out to be one of the best bits of business we've done in a long while. It's early days to see how good a shot stopper he is, but his footwork and distribution was stunningly good against Rayo Vallecano. If he can dominate his area and stops shots, he is gonna be world class. And we got him for £3.5M. Much as I am so grateful to Christian Walton, I think it's problay better to loan out Christian and keep the two Dutchmen battling for the no.1 jersey. | |

| Litfc00 added 17:38 - Aug 11 If Scherpen is our no1 and Walton is fit, this would be a tremendous loan to boost his value / gain top league experience at a huge club. | |

| blueoutlook added 17:39 - Aug 11 Who would be the third keeper though ? We need three. | |

| Mark added 17:42 - Aug 11 He has only just arrived in England and may now be off to Spain?! Surely a decent loan fee and 100% payment of his wages would be required. After a good season in Spain he would be worth a lot more than we paid, but equally he could find himself on the subs bench over there and lose value. | |

| Bazza8564 added 18:01 - Aug 11 Personally I would keep this guy around, he and Scherpen are the future. His distribution is amazing, sorry but Walton is now down to 3 in the pecking order | |

| Linkboy13 added 18:08 - Aug 11 People are saying based on performances he should be number one but he's hardly played and they have been friendlies. I think we should leave it to the people who work with the players day in day out the coaching staff. | |

| armchaircritic59 added 18:17 - Aug 11 It's a tricky one from the perspective of the small amount we've seen of both Dutch keepers. One thing we already know for certain, one of them has amazing distribution for a goalkeeper, but he's not going to find it that easy in the PL. Once teams there see what he can do with the ball at his feet ( if they haven't already ), its quite likely he'll be quickly closed down. I've heard on the grapevine ( I have no actual proof of it! ) that he needs to work on crosses and commanding the box more. Obviously at his age he's got plenty of time! Scherpen, we've seen little of. We know what we saw on Saturday, but there's zero chance I'm judging a new keeper on that one display. This is one I'll definitely leave to G O'N! | |

| blueboy1981 added 19:39 - Aug 11 Problem being - good committed players need and want to play - not all (by far) are more interested in the Treatment Room and the Bench - than actually being on that Pitch !! | |

| Ferguson added 21:04 - Aug 11 Only saw him in a nothing game, but Kayne has a lot going for him and slotted in well too. I was worried how slow the big man seemed to be. Scherpen seemed a bit lost tbh. Lots for the boss to think about ! | |
