September 4 – Telemundo has acquired the Spanish-language US rights to the Italian Serie A, adding another of Europe’s biggest leagues to a fast-growing football stable. The multi-year deal runs through 2028-29 and also takes in the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana. Coverage will be spread across the Telemundo and Universo linear networks, the Peacock streaming service and Telemundo’s FAST channel, backed by shoulder programming through the season. English-language rights for 2026-27 stay with CBS Sports, which has carried the league since 2021. The move plays on the interest in Italian football in the States, with several USMNT player in Serie A, including “Captain America” Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah at AC Milan and Weston McKennie at Juventus. However, for Telemundo, the Mexican angle is also key. Much of its audience traces back to the huge Mexican diaspora, and Genoa’s Johan Vasquez, capped 50 times by Mexico, is the only Mexican in Serie A. He already features in Telemundo’s promotional material. This is part of a serious build-out by parent company NBC. Telemundo now holds Spanish-language rights to Serie A, the Bundesliga and the Premier League, and recently added UEFA’s club competitions.
