West Ham United‘s Edson Álvarez isn’t planning to leave Europe immediately and return to Club América.
Fox Sports Mexico journalist Rubén Rodríguez, relayed by Bolavip, covers an important update about the midfielder’s immediate future.
West Ham man had several options
In the summer, the 28-year-old returned to West Ham United, after Fenerbahçe decided against making his loan stay permanent.
The London club dropped to the Championship, and he wasn’t keen on playing in the second division.
Edson Álvarez wasn’t short of options as Ajax, Real Sociedad and Olympiacos were among the clubs that wanted to sign him.
Last week, Armando González’s father confirmed the Greek club were keen on signing the Mexico international, days after his son completed a move to Olympiacos. However, the Hammers man still hasn’t found a new club.
West Ham player rules out return
Edson Álvarez came through the ranks of Club América’s youth system. He spent three years with their first team before leaving them for Ajax in 2019.
There’s been talk of a return to his former club in the next few days. The English window closed on Tuesday and the one in Mexico remains open until September 11th, allowing the West Ham United player to secure a move.
Rubén Rodríguez has looked into these links and wastes no time to dismiss them. He says the former Ajax man ‘has no intention’ of joining Club América at this stage of his career.
His desire is to continue in Europe, where only a few leagues have the windows still open. There’s a good possibility the Mexican will continue with the London club, at least until the end of this year.
Álvarez has two years left on his contract, and Transfermarkt value him at €15m. He made only appearance this season, in the Hammers’ EFL Cup win over Portsmouth. Nuno Espírito Santo has left him out of the squad for the four Championship matches.
