Tottenham have become the latest English club to be linked with Boca Juniors youngster Leonel Flores, whose name seems to be collecting Premier League admirers by the week. Brighton, Manchester City and Aston Villa have all been mentioned in Argentina over the past couple of months. Now it’s Spurs’ turn. El Intransigente has produced two reports on Tottenham’s supposed interest in Flores. They say the club are following the 19-year-old and could consider making an offer. Nothing has actually happened yet. There’s been no bid and no formal contact mentioned. More importantly, Sport Witness already learned from sources close to the Argentine club that any move from an interested club would now be one for January or the summer of 2027. So there shouldn’t be any great panic at Boca just yet. Tottenham link at least makes some sense The steady stream of English clubs being linked with Flores naturally gives us reason to be cautious about each individual claim. Tottenham joining the list does have some logic from a squad-building perspective, though. Spurs are expected to part ways with Richarlison, while Dane Scarlett and Will Lankshear have also been allowed to leave. Mason Melia is also out on loan. That leaves them without an obvious young centre-forward developing behind their senior options. Dominic Solanke and Omar Marmoush are both established forwards and getting closer to 30 than 20. Looking further ahead therefore makes sense. Of course Flores isn’t exclusively a centre-forward. He’s comfortable across the attack and has played plenty senior minutes from the right, so he’d be more of a longer-term attacking project than an immediate replacement for anyone. That’s another reason a 2027 move would make more sense than something happening now. Flores keeps giving clubs reasons to watch While the list of reported suitors keeps changing, Flores’ progress at Boca is much easier to track. He’s now a regular under manager Rodolfo Arruabarrena and has two goals and one assist from his first 11 senior appearances. The teenager has even moved ahead of much more experienced in the manager’s thinking. Before that, Flores produced 19 goals and five assists across 51 official appearances for Boca’s reserves. El Intransigente says Brighton and Porto are also following him. But none of those clubs have submitted a formal proposal. Boca would prefer to keep Flores anyway. He’s contracted until December 2029 and Arruabarrena clearly sees him as part of his team. Previous reporting has put a release clause in that deal at around €13m (£11.3m). Surely the Argentine press may well give us another interested English club before January comes around. But for now, Spurs are the latest one.
