Tottenham striker stuck after €20m bid rejected - Salah and Fabinho personally pushing transfer

Richarlison’s exit from Tottenham has become considerably messier, and even the apparent escape route to Trabzonspor is now difficult to read.
The Brazilian is already out of Tottenham’s Premier League squad and training with the U21s. Roberto De Zerbi doesn’t have him in his plans, so finding a transfer would seemingly suit everyone involved.
Getting one done is proving much harder. ESPN Brazil recalled Tottenham have rejected two offers from Trabzonspor as a context to reveal Richarlison’s camp are pessimistic about completing a move before the Turkish window closes on Friday.
And that’s only part of the story.
Tottenham have rejected €20m package
The first Trabzonspor offer was worth €15m (£13m) guaranteed. They then returned with €15m (£13m) plus another €5m (£4.3m) in bonuses. Tottenham rejected that package as well.
Those figures are particularly interesting given what we covered earlier this week. Spurs had been looking for £30m (€34.7m) for Richarlison. That valuation contributed to moves from Everton and Aston Villa going nowhere before the English deadline.
So we now have an answer to the question we raised when Trabzonspor’s interest became serious: how close were they actually getting to Tottenham’s demands?
Not particularly close, it seems. The Turkish side haven’t given up yet, but ESPN say Richarlison’s representatives aren’t optimistic about Tottenham releasing him before Friday. That’s despite there being little doubt about the player’s willingness to go.
Salah and Fabinho make their calls
ESPN Brazil have another interesting detail from behind the scenes. Mohamed Salah and Fabinho have both personally called Richarlison in recent days to encourage him to join Trabzonspor.
Fabinho already knows the Tottenham striker well. The pair were together with Brazil at the 2022 World Cup.
The calls show how seriously Trabzonspor have been taking the pursuit. Reports from Turkey had already claimed Richarlison verbally agreed to the move and was pushing Tottenham to accept the offer.
ESPN now add that the relationship between Richarlison and Spurs has deteriorated during the process. There was a disagreement over how the negotiations were handled, and the Brazilian was left disappointed with Tottenham’s directors.
That leaves him in a pretty awkward position. He’s out of De Zerbi’s plans, training with the U21s and wants a change of scenery, yet Tottenham aren’t accepting the money currently on offer.
Trabzonspor have another striker
There’s another complication which makes this whole situation even harder to read. Trabzonspor have reportedly signed Franculino Djú, another centre-forward.
There’s nothing to say that signing automatically ends their pursuit of Richarlison. Yet it’s reasonable to wonder whether the obvious vacancy the Brazilian could have filled has now been taken.
So what looked like Richarlison’s clearest route out of Tottenham suddenly looks far less straightforward. And of course, the Turkish window deadline is Friday.
ESPN say Saudi Arabia could provide another option if Trabzonspor can’t convince Spurs. Otherwise, the Brazilian may have to wait until January. That’s hardly an ideal outcome.
The clock keeps ticking and Richarlison’s Tottenham exit is getting more confusing rather than less.
