Majors reclaim the sword, defeat Belhaven 36-20 in Riverside Rumble Millsaps ends Belhaven’s run of dominance in the rivalry with a 36-20 win at Harper Davis Field JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - The Riverside Rumble returned to Harper Davis Field on Thursday night, with Millsaps and Belhaven fighting for a sword and bragging rights on the same street. Belhaven owned the series 9-6 and had taken four of the last five meetings, but Millsaps, coming off its first winning season, left no doubt this time, defeating the Blazers 36-20. Belhaven brought the trophy to Riverside Drive after last year’s win. Millsaps wanted it back on its own turf, and by the end of the night, it was. Early turnovers set the tone The Majors’ first drive nearly ended in disaster. Quarterback Grant Bizjack handed off to Tameron Patterson, who hit a beautiful spin move before fumbling. Alex Desarzant forced the turnover, and Pearl graduate Tre Chaffier came away with the recovery to give the Blazers new life. Belhaven cashed in. Millsaps forced a fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line, but Ian Burleson powered his way in on a quarterback run to put the Blazers up 7-0. Millsaps looked for a response after that, but Bizjack’s downfield throw was picked off by Bralen Steele, setting Belhaven up again. The Blazers couldn’t cash in this time — just two plays later, Burleson’s pass over the middle was tipped in the air by Elias Allen and intercepted by Lance McGowen, stopping the bleeding for Millsaps. Millsaps takes control before halftime Millsaps’ Connor Babin was able to get the Majors on the board in the second quarter with a long field goal. The Majors took over from there. Trailing 7-3, Derrick Tasby Jr. capped a long drive by powering across the goal line to give Millsaps its first lead of the night. Just before halftime, another long Majors drive ended with a short touchdown run from Mitch Taylor. Millsaps led 17-7 at the half. Belhaven pushes back in the second half Belhaven answered in the third quarter. Cayson Williams connected with Will Jones on a 61-yard completion to set up his own touchdown, cutting into the deficit. The Blazers pushed again in the fourth quarter. John Davis kept a drive alive with a fourth-down grab, and Jacob DeAngelo punched it in from the 1-yard line, but the two-point conversion attempt failed. Millsaps led 30-20 with 5:18 remaining. Majors seal the win Millsaps answered with a final score to put the game away, sealing a 36-20 win over Belhaven and reclaiming the sword on Riverside Drive.
