Former WWE star Claudio Castagnoli has expanded his horizons with his work for AEW and CMLL. The Death Riders member has impressed people backstage in CMLL. Castagnoli has held a dual contract since March. His performances in Mexico have reportedly gained strong praise. His conditioning and stamina have especially impressed CMLL officials. Claudio Castagnoli’s conditioning and stamina have impressed CMLL backstage, says a new report Dave Meltzer discussed Claudio Castagnoli’s CMLL run on Wrestling Observer Radio. He explained why people backstage have been impressed. He said, “I remember the guys there were telling me how impressed they were with Claudio, because Claudio would fly in there, and they would do these singles matches, and he would not get tired.” Meltzer explained that competing at high altitude presents challenges and how American wrestlers can especially struggle when working in Mexico. “And you know, the Mexicans don’t get tired because they wrestle in that altitude. But a lot of the Americans have trouble.” [H/T: WrestlingInc] Castagnoli has seemingly had no problems adapting to conditions. He has actually thrived during his CMLL appearances so far. In 2025, the former ROH World Champion won the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship and held it for several months. Castagnoli most recently competed in the 2026 International Grand Prix. He worked the entire match, which lasted almost 74 minutes. He continues balancing his AEW and CMLL commitments. Moreover, his performances have earned significant respect backstage. The Death Riders member has become an important CMLL wrestler. His conditioning has clearly helped him handle the demanding schedule.
