Burnley began their competitive season with a nervy cup victory over Notts County on Saturday. Max Weiss was the hero as Nicky Hayen’s side edged past their League One opponents 4-3 on penalty kicks, after playing out a 1-1 draw during the 90 minutes. It wasn’t the performance many Burnley wants were expecting in their first game of the season, but ultimately they achieved their objective of reaching the next round.
