Sunderland confirm defender's departure as Florent Ghisolfi sanctions outgoing deals
Arthur Masuaku has completed his Sunderland exit after one season at the club
Arthur Masuaku has completed his Sunderland exit.
The left back has joined Turkish top-tier side Konyaspor on a permanent deal having struggle to establish himself as a regular during his first season on Wearside. Masuaku returned to the Stadium of Light earlier this month after the deal initially stalled, but an agreement was found over the course of the weekend and the formalities have now been concluded.
It's thought that Sunderland will not receive a free having signed Masuaku as a free agent last summer, but the transfer represents another important step in Florent Ghisolfi's work to trim the wage bill.
A club statement said: "Arthur Masuaku has completed a permanent transfer to Turkish club Konyaspor. The 32 year old left-back, who joined Sunderland last summer, departs after making four appearances for The Lads.
“The DR Congo international has previous experience of playing in Turkey, at Beşiktaş J.K, for whom he made 108 appearances and registered 18 assists over a three year spell between 2022 and 2025. Everyone at Sunderland AFC wishes Arthur all the best for his move to Turkey."
Masuaku has signed a two-year deal at his new club.

Sunderland are set to sanction a number of departures this week, with Anthony Patterson on the brink of an £8 million move to Wrexham and Abdoullah Ba close to joining League One side Peterborough United. The club are working hard to sign a new left back ahead of the new season and remain in talks with Toulouse regarding Dayann Methalie, but are now actively pursuing other targets after a bid of €33 million was rejected.
