Sheffield United transfer latest: Former Leeds United man Kalvin Phillips' vow after re-signing SHEFFIELD United have re-signed Kalvin Phillips for a second loan spell at Bramall Lane for the 2026-27 season. The former Leeds United man spent the second half of the 2025-26 season with the Blades but made just three appearances, as his spell at Bramall Lane was affected by injury and suspension. The final one saw him sent off against Steel City rivals Sheffield Wednesday. A knee injury suffered during that game required surgery and effectively ended his loan spell. On returning to the club, Phillips said: "My time was spoiled by my last game and the injury after that so I'm here to put that right. "The squad is similar to what it was last year, I'm happy to see everyone and I'm looking forward to coming back fighting fit. It is a good feeling to walk back through the doors in Shirecliffe, I see that the pre-season has been tough and the lads have come out flying so I'm happy to start training and get involved." The 30-year-old was available for a move away from City having been left out of their pre-season tour to Asia with new boss Enzo Maresca deciding he did not have a future at the club, despite having two years on his deal still to run. Phillips joined City from Leeds for an estimated £42million in July 2022. He penned a six-year contract, on a reported £150,000-a-week pay packet. He has made just 32 appearances for the club. Boss Chris Wilder said: "We've stayed in contact with Kalvin throughout the summer and in those conversations what was always clear was both sides wanted to make this happen. "Clearly, there has had to be a degree of patience to get a deal completed. Make no mistake, this is a good deal for the football club, and I have to thank the owners and Stephen Bettis for their diligence and persistence to get this one done. "Since the first day Kalvin walked through the door here, he instantly ticked the boxes in terms of personality and character, both on the field and behind the scenes and he offers more experience in a crucial area of the pitch. "Kalvin is a winner; he's achieved plenty in his career and he'll set the example to this young squad we have here."
