Manchester City hijacked Tottenham’s move for Iliman Ndiaye in the final phase of the summer transfer window. Tottenham Hotspur continued their spending until deadline day, signing Mykhaylo Mudryk and Tosin Adarabioyo from Chelsea. Mudryk has joined on a season-long loan, while Tosin made a permanent switch from Chelsea to Tottenham. Prior to Mudryk’s signing, Spurs were keen on signing Iliman Ndiaye from Everton. The Lilywhites agreed deals in principle with Everton for Iliman Ndiaye, with Richarlison moving in the opposite direction in a separate transfer. However, Richarlison failed to agree personal terms with former club Everton, which apparently led to a deal for Ndiaye falling through. Sensing a window of opportunity, Manchester City agreed a deal worth up to £65m to sign Ndiaye from Everton earlier this week. The Sky Blues hijacked Tottenham’s pursuit of the Senegal international, leaving Spurs to scramble for late alternatives in the final hours of the transfer window. City soon pivoted to Ndiaye and hijacked Spurs’ pursuit in the 11th hour, leaving the Hotspur Way chiefs with egg on their faces. Going by Ndiaye’s interview at City, it looks like he had his heart set on a switch to the Etihad Stadium. It is also possible that the Senegalese actually wanted to sign for Spurs, but City’s late entry into the mix turned his head. Nonetheless, De Zerbi has chosen to be reunited with Mudryk, having worked with the Ukrainian winger at Shakhtar Donetsk. The Tottenham boss will be desperate to get Mudryk back to match sharpness as soon as possible after he spent 20 months on the sidelines at Chelsea following off-field issues.
