Movsar Evloev says Alexander Volkanovski will not be able to decide where their UFC 333 title fight takes place. The unbeaten featherweight challenger answered Volkanovski’s warning about turning the matchup into a striking fight during a new Mike Bohn interview, then promised to keep wrestling for all 25 minutes if needed. Volkanovski has already pushed back on the idea that Evloev can hold him down, saying the challenger would break if his takedowns failed. Evloev now has his own direct answer before their Oct. 24 meeting in Abu Dhabi. “I will do anything I want whenever I decide to take him down,” Evloev said. “I would take him down and I don’t scare of his skills of striking too. He’s great but like I said my time is coming and October 24th everybody will see.” Bohn then asked about Volkanovski acknowledging the takedowns while insisting he would not be held down. Evloev said that would only mean more work for the challenger, not a change in his plan. “Even if he’s right, I will take him down as more as need,” Evloev said. “Even if I need take him down 100 times, even more I will do it, you know, just 25 minutes. I will enjoy each second of this time. Like I said, even if I need take him down every second, I will do it. and nobody will stop me there.” Evloev Says His UFC 333 Camp Arrived At The Right Time Evloev also tied that confidence to his current training camp. He said the title fight is arriving while he feels physically stronger and technically sharper than at any earlier point in his career. “This is my best camp and I’m like feel I’m in the best shape in my life,” Evloev said. “So now like the title fight come in the best time because now is my prime you know I’m 32 and I don’t feel like I’m tired.” “This year especially I feel I got more power than before,” Evloev said. “I always was like good strength and conditioning but now I feel even better and my skills are getting better striking like everybody noticed.” That matters because Volkanovski has framed the bout around pace, range and damage. The champion is trying to defend the featherweight belt at a stage of his career that has already prompted retirement questions, while Evloev has waited through a long contender queue to reach this chance. Volkanovski has also discussed how UFC 333 could affect his future. Evloev rejected the idea that a wrestling-heavy win would be dull. He said the goal is not to satisfy fans who only want exchanges, but to become champion and leave Abu Dhabi with the belt. “It’s not going to be boring fight like people used to say no finish that’s mean like boring but I got a lot of fans who love my fights,” Evloev said. “Because of wrestling because of some weird situations, my defending of submissions is great and striking getting better.” “I’m not to make them happy,” Evloev said. “I’m here to be a champion, to be a best in the world, and to make my family happy by my win, not just to show them good fight.” Islam Makhachev has picked Evloev in the matchup after sharing 30 minutes of cage time with Volkanovski across two UFC lightweight title fights. Evloev called Makhachev the best fighter in the world, but said that endorsement will not matter once the cage door closes. Makhachev has also questioned where Volkanovski stands before UFC 333. “Islam the greatest now and like he said, it will be not easy fight,” Evloev said. “He said the Volk gave him the hardest fight in his career, first one and then the second one he just turned the lights off.” “I think Islam will rooting for me if he come to the UFC this day,” Evloev said. “But I just depend on myself when I just step in the cage. So only me and my opponent, nobody else.” Evloev is 20-0 as a professional and 10-0 in the UFC. Volkanovski remains the champion and the more proven five-round fighter, but Evloev made his position plain: if Volkanovski keeps standing up, he plans to make him defend the next shot immediately.
