Tottenham have suffered a setback in their pursuit of World Cup star.
Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as the frontrunners to land Savinho, although Manchester City are said to be reluctant to sanction the winger’s departure without securing a replacement first.
Spurs have been in talks to sign Savinho for almost two months now, with Roberto De Zerbi identifying the Brazilian as a primary attacking target. The Lilywhites remain confident that they can agree a fee with Man City for Savinho, who wants to leave the Etihad Stadium and become a part of De Zerbi’s squad.
Tottenham table opening bid for Benfica winger
In addition to Savinho, Tottenham hold an interest in Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup. The Norwegian international is attracting interest from top clubs across Europe after an impressive second half of the 2025/26 season for Benfica and World Cup displays. He made 43 appearances in 2025/26 for Benfica, registering 10 goals and seven assists, before transforming his form at the biggest stage with a goal and three assists for his nation.
Recent reports suggest that Spurs have made their first bid of €45m plus a further €10m in bonuses for Andreas Schjelderup. Instead of rejecting the offer, Benfica have told Tottenham to restructure a deal as they would prefer to receive €50m as a guaranteed fee.
Marco Silva opens up on Tottenham-linked Andreas Schjelderup’s future
Before Benfica’s Europa League qualifier against Hearts, new boss Marco Silva opened up on Schjelderup’s future. The Portuguese tactician explains why he considers the winger such an important part of his plans at the club.
“I understand why there is so much talk about Andreas,” Marco Silva was quoted by A Bola.
“First, because he has quality. Benfica made public the possible renewal and the offer he has. From the moment that became public, it’s understandable there are conversations.
“Because of the quality he has, because of the last five months of last season and because of the excellent World Cup he had… I think by praising him like this I’ve already answered whether he is fundamental to me or not.”
Silva wants the Norway talent to stay and become a big part of the project he’s looking to build at the Estádio da Luz. However, the 49-year-old has not outright deemed the 22-year-old as untouchable.
“For the way we want to play, wide players are fundamental. He has very specific characteristics to face low blocks and is capable of doing something different against teams that defend well,” the Benfica coach added.
“We’re going to face plenty of those in the Portuguese league. Andreas is a player I believe in a lot, and he is different.”
Benfica in talks over a new contract for Andreas Schjelderup
After the World Cup, Benfica resumed contract talks with Schjelderup’s camp. The club officials are keen to tie the winger down to a new contract, having been massively impressed with his displays at the World Cup.
That, combined with Silva explaining how central the player is to his plans, makes it difficult for Tottenham to crack a deal. For the N17 bosses, Silva’s message on Schjelderup is loud and clear.
