It would be safe to say that it was an eventful summer transfer window for Newcastle United. So many key players left. In return, some arrived as well. The likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon have departed. Those were arguably the club’s three best players. It is always tough to recover from that. The early performances this season have not suggested so. Instead, the Magpies look better than they did last season. And if some of their additions end up settling in, there is a lot to be excited about. Nico Gonzalez and Matias Fernandez-Pardo are the two headline signings of the summer. But Amar Dedic could end up as the signing of the window, judging by the early signs. Why Newcastle United player left While those three mentioned departures have gotten all of the headlines, another big-money Newcastle United signing also left this summer, albeit only on a loan basis. It was just last summer that Newcastle United had paid £69 million to sign Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart. And he has already left on loan to join Juventus. Many saw this as a sign that the Magpies are a trading club. But Matthias Jaissle does not seem to agree with that sentiment. According to Newcastle World, the manager said when asked about it: “(Woltemade leaving) no sign of being a trading club. We have a clear idea how we want to play football. “We have now also what I mentioned, a clear idea how we want to recruit players. Young, talented players with profiles who fit 100 per cent in our idea of how we want to play football. “And this is just, yeah, really consistent in our approach. And this makes me comfortable looking ahead in the future because that’s the base. That you’re clear in what you want to do in all departments. “Not only on the pitch, also the whole management group. And this is special, and this was also an element why I signed here.” Woltemade was not the right fit So, it looks like Jaissle might not have been convinced that his fellow German was the right for the football that he wants his team to play. And to be honest, it is hard to argue with that. In the little football that Woltemade played under Jaissle, it never felt like it was the most natural fit. In fact, there were those who felt it was even worse than what he had under Eddie Howe. So, leaving on loan might have been the best step forward for all parties involved. And if he does end up doing well in Italy, it could earn Woltemade a permanent move elsewhere. After seeing him for a season, it feels like it is not just about Newcastle United. Woltemade might not be the best fit for what is needed to succeed in the Premier League. But we have already seen him do brilliantly in the Bundesliga. And it should not come as a surprise if he ends up doing the same in the Italian Serie A as well.
