Shea Charles looking to 'really kickstart my Premier League career' after record-breaking Fulham transfer Shea Charles “hopes to really kickstart my Premier League career” after becoming Northern Ireland’s most expensive player of all-time following his £30million move to Fulham. The 22-year-old played once for Manchester City in England’s top-flight before joining Southampton in 2023, but has now signed a five-year deal to seal his Premier League return. Charles’ transfer has set a new record fee for a Northern Irish star, trumping the £15million paid by Newcastle United to Norwich City for Jamal Lewis in 2020. The midfielder has developed into one of Michael O’Neill’s most important players, bringing his cap tally to 35 after playing in June’s friendlies against Guinea and France, and has also been entrusted with captaincy duties. Charles played 31 times in the Championship last season as the Saints reached the play-offs – he scored the winner in their semi-final triumph over Middlesbrough prior to Southampton being thrown out due to ‘Spygate’.
