Matthias Jaissle to lean on 'amazing' England boss Thomas Tuchel's advice during Newcastle United reign - 'I really admire him' By Leon Imber Published 11/08/2026 at 17:26 GMT+1 React to this story Newly-appointed Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle said he will ask England boss Thomas Tuchel for advice during his first managerial spell in the Premier League. "The connection is, of course, there and it's been a long connection," Jaissle said at his first press conference on Tuesday. "He was my coach when I was a youth player in Stuttgart, so quite an interesting story so he was part of why I was developing quite well as a young kid. "An amazing coach, I really admire him. I appreciate him a lot, what he did already and what he will do for sure also in the future. "Because he is a really special coach, a really, really good coach. I'm looking forward to staying in touch with him, also getting insights from him on the league. That's something I want to use for sure." Jaissle has joined from Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli, succeeding Eddie Howe who had held the position for five years. And the German coach enters during a difficult summer which has seen key players Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes depart. In their place, Newcastle have recruited some young talent from across the continent: Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba, Bazoumana Toure and Lukas Hornicek being their key acquisitions. But Jaissle acknowledged the tough task ahead of him. "It's a challenge, a big challenge," he said. "Always when there's a transitional period. But it's not time to complain. It doesn't make sense to see the negative things, we want to see the chance in that situation and that's our approach from day one. "We are here to do our best job. We want to support the players, the current squad. There will be adjustments to see in the coming days, weeks. But for now it's only focused on the daily work, the work we can influence. And that's all that matters now." - Trump says it would be 'terrible mistake' if FIFA removes 'fantastic' Infantino - Young reveals 'disaster' team meetings under Conte - 'People were falling asleep' Jaissle accepted that losing such key players can create a dressing room "vacuum" but assured that Newcastle are aware of where they need to strengthen before the 2026/27 campaign. He said: "Obviously in that transition phase you know the players who left the club. They were great players, great characters, experienced players. And this is now a vacuum, you also call it in English, right? /origin-imgresizer.tntsports.io/2026/08/08/image-5423fb61-b4b0-489c-bc03-7d98d8a69760-85-2560-1440.jpeg>) 'The club has made a decision' - Simeone provides an update on Alvarez's Atletico Madrid future Video credit: SNTV "Other players need to step in. Either we adjust something in the squad, by signing these players, these profiles, or other players need to step up and fill these positions, these leadership roles. "So I am quite optimistic, we can work in both scenarios. My job is to do the best out of it. Without telling you too much, we are aware of what we need in the squad, everyone internally is aware, and we are working toward solutions."
