Marinakis' lawyers lodged a defamation claim in the High Court on Monday, with CPFC Limited listed as a defendant. The incident took place during the Premier League clash between the two clubs at Selhurst Park last August. The banner also read: "Mr Marinakis is not involved in blackmail, match-fixing, drug trafficking or corruption." Marinakis has denied any wrongdoing in relation to such allegations. A statement at the time read: “Crystal Palace FC has been charged with misconduct in relation to its Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest FC on Sunday 24 August. “It’s alleged that the club failed to ensure its spectators and/or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters or followers) didn’t behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, insulting and/or provocative way during the fixture." CPFC Limited is listed as one of two defendants in Marinakis' defamation claim. Gibbs-White had appeared to be close to leaving Forest in a transfer to Tottenham last summer before signing a new contract at the City Ground after talks with Marinakis. Forest had taken Palace's place in the Europa League less than two weeks before playing the Eagles at Selhurst Park on August 24 last year, with Palace relegated to the Conference League for breaking UEFA's multi-club ownership rules.
