The Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots are set for a Super Bowl rematch next Wednesday at Lumen Field. While Patriots fans are hoping for some measure of revenge, neutrals are probably hoping this game is a little more dramatic and competitive than the Super Bowl proved to be. What we do know is that there have been some high-profile roster changes for both teams. How much the Patriots roster has changed since Super Bowl loss to Seahawks There has been quite a bit of roster churn for the reigning AFC champions ahead of their Super Bowl rematch with the Seahawks. There’s no need to rehash the Seahawks’ departures and additions because, well, there weren’t that many changes, plus we’re a Seahawks site obligated to cover every morsel of news. But what about the Patriots? The AFC champions made some major moves at wide receiver, but what else have they’ve done? Let’s look at who the Patriots lost and gained since the Super Bowl, with an emphasis on outgoing players who actually played meaningful snaps in Santa Clara. Notable New England Patriots departures - Garrett Bradbury is no longer the starting center, having been traded to the center-needy Chicago Bears after Drew Dalman retired. - Fullback Jack Westover was released during roster cuts and has since signed with the Washington Commanders practice squad. - Starting wide receiver Stefon Diggs was released and is now with the Washington Commanders. - Wide receiver Kayshon Boutte was traded in preseason to the wide receiver-needy Houston Texans, who lost Jayden Higgins for the season to a torn ACL. Boutte was second in touchdown receptions behind Stefon Diggs and third among wide receivers in catches. - Reserve tight end Austin Hooper signed with his original drafting team, the Atlanta Falcons, in free agency. Hooper was TE2 behind Hunter Henry. - Starting safety Jaylinn Hawkins signed with the Baltimore Ravens in free agency. - Outside linebacker Anfernee Jennings was released and signed with the New Orleans Saints. Jennings was a rotational player (280 regular season defensive snaps). - Starting outside linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson signed with the Washington Commanders as a free agent. - Inside linebacker Jack Gibbens signed with the Arizona Cardinals in free agency. Gibbens started half the season and played defensive snaps in every game. - Inside linebacker Jahlani Tavai was released and has since signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tavai was a rotational backer who was one of New England’s leading special teams guys in snaps played. - Defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga agreed to a three-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency. Tonga played a career-high 337 snaps in a rotation with Milton Williams and Christian Barmore. Notable New England Patriots arrivals - Wide receiver A.J. Brown was acquired in a big trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. - Wide receiver Romeo Doubs signed a four-year contract as a free agent. - Fullback Reggie Gilliam joined as a free agent from the Buffalo Bills. - Starting left guard Alijah Vera-Tucker signed a three-year deal in free agency. - Starting safety Kevin Byard signed a one-year contract in free agency. - Outside linebacker and former Seahawk Dre’Mont Jones signed a three-year contract in free agency. Veteran Mitch Wishnowsky will get elevated from the practice squad in his absence. One other note is that pass rusher Harold Landry is starting the year on PUP, so that’s another Super Bowl participant who won’t be factoring into Wednesday’s game. It’d be unwise to assume the rematch will go exactly like the Super Bowl; we already experienced this with the 2014 Seahawks winning an early season overtime thriller over the Broncos after thrashing them in Super Bowl 48. It would, however, be very funny if it does pretty much go the same way despite numerous starting lineup changes.
