| Manchester City Striker Signs For Southampton On Loan Tuesday, 11th Aug 2026 14:23 It was not exactly a secret that Divin Mubama was in talks with Saints, but now it has been confirmed that the 21 year old centre forward has put pen to paper on a one year loan deal at St Mary's. As confirmed in The Daily Echo and other sources, Divin Mabuba will be a Southampton player for the coming season, after signing on loan from Manchester City. The 21 year old started at West Ham United making 8 sub appearances in the Premier League, before opting to join City when his contract ran out in the summer of 2024. His first season at the Etihad didn't see him get much game time for the first team, just 27 minutes as a sub in the Premier League and a full game in the FA Cup in January 2025, when he scored a goal in City's 8-0 win over Salford City. Last season he was at Stoke City, but played only 28 times in the Championship, scoring 5 goals before injury ended his season. He did play at St Mary's against Saints. but that ended prematurely for him when he was sent off in the 59th minute for a second yellow card. Speaking to club media he had this to say about his latest move. “I believe in myself, one hundred per cent. With the way this team plays, when you’ve got players around you that have that much quality, you will be served. It’s up to you whether you put the ball in the back of the net, and that’s what I’m here to do. “I’ve just come back from a pre-season where I’ve scored goals. I’ve been playing, I feel really fresh, I feel sharp, so I’m just really excited to get going.” Group sporting director Johannes Spors said: “Divin is an extremely talented striker who, despite his age, joins us with previous experience of the Championship. “As soon as we knew about Divin’s availability we acted quickly to bring him here, not just because of his incredible goal scoring ability, but because of his work ethic and hunger to help the team, which will be vitally important this season.” Turning 22 in October it will be interesting how he will be used by Tonda Eckert,I would assume initially in a manner somewhat similar to that used last season when Ross Stewart & Cyle Larin were often inter changed game by game. But Mabuba is highly rated by City and could have the ability to force the manager to start him in preference to Larin, a good situation to be in, competition will hopefully be good for both players as it seemed to be for Stewart & Larin last season. Mabuba may well start at Watford, given that Cyle Larin has only just played his first game in pre season and could be a little ring rusty after his post World Cup break, whereas Mabuba has scored on a couple of occasions for City's first team in pre season. The first chance the St Mary's home fans will get to see him will be when his old club Stoke visit on August 22nd, ironically just a day short of a year since Southampton fans waved him down the St Mary's tunnel after the red card was shown to him playing for the Potters. Just a few days later he will get the chance to play against another of his old clubs, when West Ham United visit in the Carabao Cup. Love watching him play for us. | | | 0 | | | Monksway added 16:36 - Aug 11 I think the difference this year will be that Larin will be more clearly first choice but with Mabuma coming off the bench fairly regularly. Hopefully both will be fit enough to complete 80-90 minutes if required.. Given Eckert's preferred style of striker we might still need another centre forward rather than BBD or Archer. Personally, if finance isn't an issue, I'd keep Archer and let Edozie and BBD go playing Archer or young Romeo A off the left as a backup to Scienza. | | | 0 | |
