It is no secret that Man Utd would have liked to sign Lewis Hall in the recently concluded summer transfer window. And to be very honest, the player probably would have wanted to leave as well. Ultimately, Newcastle United were not open to the idea though. If it were a normal summer transfer window, perhaps the move would have ended up happening. But this was one in which Newcastle United lost Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon. So, they could not afford to lose Lewis Hall on top of that. And that is exactly why they blocked any exit from happening, that is very understandable. On the other hand, Manchester United did not really solve their left-back problem either. So, it is very possible that they might try to sign Hall again in future transfer windows. But Roy Keane has warned them against it. Roy Keane not a fan of Lewis Hall Keane, a legendary Manchester United captain and now a prominent television pundit, does not appear to rate Hall highly when it comes to the defensive side of his game. According to Utd Report, Keane said about Hall on a recent episode of Stick to Football: “I don’t think Hall is the answer. He’s not bad, don’t get me wrong. I don’t think he’s a good defender. “Of course, you want him to be comfortable in possession, but first and foremost, they can defend, because that’s what your challenge is now. “Whatever it is with your attacking players, listen lads: two midfielders and an attacking four. Go and win us the game. But we’ve got to be solid defensively, even if it’s sacrificing being good on the ball.” It would be safe to say that not many Newcastle United fans would agree with that view. Yes, Hall is best-known for how comfortable he is on the ball and carrying it up the pitch. But that does not mean that he cannot hold his own in defence. Just look at his performance at the weekend against Tottenham Hotspur, which Newcastle United won 2-0. Newcastle United should be happy if Man Utd don’t come calling for Hall again The Magpies kept a clean sheet against Tottenham Hotspur and Hall was immense in both phases of the game, both defensively and at the back. One simply cannot see Keane’s complaint. In fact, if you think about it, one could argue that the English international has the potential to develop into the best left-back in the league. And if Man Utd do not come calling for his services in the future, Newcastle United should be happy about it. Of course, that is quite unlikely to happen. Man Utd seemed quite interested in signing Hall but it could not be done. But they still have that void that would need filling in the future.
