However, after reaching a plea deal with Florida State prosecutors, he changed his plea at a hearing on Wednesday. The 50-year-old pleaded guilty to reckless driving and refusal to submit to a lawful test. He was subsequently fined $1,000 alongside having his driving licence suspended for five years. Woods also received an additional $500 fine on the count of refusing to submit to a lawful test. A further citation for careless driving saw him ordered to pay the minimum fine. It also carries a five-year driving ban, which will run concurrently with the initial suspension of his licence. The driving ban raised doubts over whether he could drive a golf cart, though, with prosecutors uncertain when initially asked. It could have a significant impact on his career - with Woods now eligible for the Champions Tour - where golfers can drive carts. While Woods is yet to confirm whether he will compete on the senior circuit, a buggy would be extremely helpful given he continues to manage long-term injuries. Florida governor Ron DeSantis has now confirmed Woods should be cleared to drive a buggy. Taking to social media to respond to the speculation, DeSantis wrote on X: "Tiger should be able to drive a golf cart on the golf course." He went on to add: "People that lose their licence aren’t typically barred from driving a golf cart on a golf course." The crash five months ago saw Woods driving at high speeds in a residential area on Jupiter Island, Florida, despite a 30mph speed limit. After attempting to overtake a truck, he caused $5,000 worth of damage to the other vehicle in the accident. While no one was injured, Woods had to crawl through the passenger door of his Land Rover to exit the car. Investigators found two white pills, identified as prescription opioid hydrocodone, during a search of his vehicle. Woods had announced he would be stepping away from golf to 'seek treatment' following his arrest. The 15-time major champion has not played competitively since the 152nd Open Championship in July 2024.
