PIRATES BID TO BOUNCE BACK POOLE co-promoter Matt Ford says his club must turn their attentions to team silverware after missing out on home territory in the Championship Best Pairs. The Pirates were favourites to triumph in a strong line-up and they comfortably reached the semi-finals of the showpiece event. But they were beaten in that race by Berwick, who had finished three points behind them in the qualifiers, with Zach Cook’s race win more than cancelled out by Peter Kildemand and Nick Morris who finished ahead of Richard Lawson in a frantic battle. The Pirates now plan for an attempted double in team competition, with their play-off semi-final against Edinburgh to come later this month, and they will also compete in the BSN Series Final. Ford said: “Let’s hope we can put things right with the next couple. “It is disappointing of course because you want to win everything you are in, but we’ve got two big things coming up with the play-offs and the BSN Final.”
