On Wednesday, the New York Yankees exploded for five runs in the 10th inning to take a 6-3 victory over the Angels — winning the rubber match of the three-game set. It was a pitcher's duel throughout the night, as the Yankees and Angels entered extra innings tied at just one run each. Cam Schlittler and Reid Detmers were mowing the opposition's lineup down with ease, and the bullpen did well to get the game to extras. However, the Yankees offense had its way in the 10th against Angels reliever Luke Murphy, who allowed five runs (four earned) in just 0.2 innings of work. It looked like Murphy was going to get out of the jam after getting two outs with the bases loaded in the top of the 10th inning. However, Austin Wells hit a two-run single to right field to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead, and then New York hit three consecutive singles courtesy of Cody Bellinger, Trent Grisham, and Ben Rice, to expand their lead to five runs. The Angels could not retaliate with enough runs in the following half-inning. They threatened to make it a ballgame when Moises Ballesteros hit a two-rune home run to cut their deficit to three, but Michael Fulmer bounced back to get the final two outs of the game by inducing a groundout from Christian Moore and striking out Jose Siri. The Yankees moved to 80-60 with this latest victory, and they have momentum on their side as they embark on another series on the road, this time facing the San Diego Padres. Meanwhile, the Angels suffered their 87th loss of the season in 140 games, and it's only a matter of time before they get mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
