Longtime UFC analyst and commentator Joe Rogan has not been shy about sharing his mostly conservative viewpoints over the past few years, even openly endorsing Donald Trump on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, ahead of the 2024 presidential election. This week, however, he was quite critical of Trump. Last week, Trump ordered Lake Ontario to be renamed Lake America as a result of an ongoing trade war with Canada. Rogan, however, does not seem to be a big fan of that move. Trump Renames Lake Ontario On Thursday, Trump officially signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America. The executive order says that with “the deepest parts of the Lake’s waters lying within United States territory, the United States claims most of the Lake’s volume,” and that the “Lake has long been an integral asset to American exploration, settlement, commerce, and defense.” The president said he’d “filed all the necessary papers, documents, everything else” for the name change. “We notified all of the various people that we have to notify. So we’ve done everything that you have to do, and this is official, effective immediately,” he said. Trump was asked what message he was trying to send by renaming the lake. “No message. As you know, Canada has been ripping us off for a long time on trade,” Trump said. “They don’t pay for anything, and they want to be treated like a state, but they’re not a state.” Joe Rogan weighs in During the most recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the longtime UFC commentator did not hold back his true thoughts when he was asked about Trump’s decision to rename the lake. “It’s to distract you from the fact we are in a war we can’t win in Iran,” Rogan said. “It doesn’t make any sense. Like, who cares if it’s Lake Ontario? It’s a good name. We’ve had that name forever.” This is not the first time that Rogan has seemingly broken ranks with Trump. Over the past several weeks, Rogan has criticized Trump for the way he handled the release of the Epstein files, Trump’s immigration enforcement, and Trump’s comments on the death of filmmaker Rob Reiner.
