Clemson students react to debate over NFL players returning to college football Mixed opinions emerge on whether drafted players should get a second shot at college eligibility CLEMSON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Students at Clemson University shared their opinions on whether NFL players should be allowed to return and play in college football. Opposition to allowing NFL players back Several residents said once a player is drafted into the NFL, the decision should be final. “Crazy that it’s even a debate. I mean, once a player gets drafted, it’s pretty final,” one resident said. “It’s unacceptable,” another said. “It should be boycotted. It’s not a part of the game, especially those who have already moved on from the collegiate level,” another resident said. “I think they should pursue other things if it’s not working out,” one person said. Others said allowing NFL players to return would take opportunities away from current college athletes. “I feel like we should give more college students the chance to shine and have those kind of opportunities,” one resident said. “So I feel like bringing people from the NFL back, I feel like that would just kind of be blocking that kind of opportunity.” Support for allowing NFL players back Other residents said allowing former NFL players to return could benefit college programs. “I don’t think we should boycott NFL players because pretty much it shows that our players can keep up with them,” one resident said. “It gives us the opportunity to show that we have future players. And it also gives those kids a chance to come back and prove to the NFL teams that they deserve a chance.” One resident said any change should come with limits. “I think there should be some kind of regulations on it,” the resident said. Others maintained that the move up to professional football should not be reversible. “It’s totally not fair at all, especially those who have experience,” one resident said. “I think that once they take the next step, once they go from NCAA college ball to play in NFL, there’s no going back,” another said.
