David “Rey” Picasso officially received his WBC Silver Featherweight title during an emotional ceremony held at the traditional Martes de Café following his championship victory over Maicol Rincon last weekend. A highlight video of the bout was presented during the event, showcasing another important milestone in Picasso’s outstanding career and further cementing his position as one of Mexico’s brightest young boxing stars. WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán personally presented the belt to the Mexico City native. During his remarks, Sulaimán emphasized the challenges that come with competing in a new weight division while wishing Picasso continued success in this next stage of his career. “New divisions bring new challenges, but also great opportunities. We wish David all the success in the world as he continues this journey,” said Sulaimán. Picasso expressed his gratitude and excitement upon receiving the prestigious green and gold belt. The young contender thanked the WBC for giving him another opportunity to compete for a Silver title and recalled a promise he once made to Don José Sulaimán. “I am very grateful to the WBC for this opportunity. As I promised Don José Sulaimán, one day I will become a WBC world champion,” Picasso said. The ceremony was also attended by Ricardo Cabañas, CEO of The Jab Promotions, the company responsible for promoting the event where Picasso captured the title. Mauricio Sulaimán took the opportunity to recognize the promoter’s efforts in staging its first professional boxing event, praising both the quality of the card and its commitment to developing young talent. Several promising fighters made successful professional debuts during the event, including Derek “Star Boy” Juarez, son of WBC world champion Lourdes “Lulú” Juarez, and Nestor Picasso, David’s younger brother. In addition, Soledad Vargas captured a WBC Silver title on the same card.
