Lucknow: Lucknow Falcons pacer Abhinandan Singh has emerged as one of the standout performers in the ongoing UPT20 League 2026, topping the wicket-takers’ chart and playing a key role in guiding his team to the playoffs. The right-arm medium pacer, who represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2026, played three matches and claimed three wickets. Carrying that experience into the UPT20 League, Abhinandan has claimed 19 wickets in nine matches at an economy rate of 7.69 to hold the Purple Cap. Lucknow Falcons finished second on the points table with six wins and three losses, registering a net run rate of 0.626. Speaking to TOI about his form, Abhinandan said the IPL experience and technical improvements boosted his performance. “I worked a lot on my length and added two variations to my bowling, the leg-cutter and slower bouncer. My yorker is my biggest strength and I’ve been executing it well. Now, I feel confident bowling in any conditions,” he said. Abhinandan also credited India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar for helping him prepare before the tournament. “I trained with Bhuvneshwar Kumar in Noida before the season and learned a great deal from him,” he said. Reflecting on his IPL stint, he praised RCB bowling coach Omkar Salvi for refining his game and backing him throughout the season. He also acknowledged the support of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jacob Duffy, Josh Hazlewood, Dinesh Karthik and Andy Flower. Looking ahead to the playoffs, Abhinandan said the Falcons are determined to end their near-misses. “Bowling is our strength. We have reached the playoffs four seasons in a row but have fallen short at crucial moments. This time, the entire team is prepared and determined to win the trophy,” he said. After the UPT20 League, Abhinandan will shift focus to domestic cricket. “My priority is to perform well and play Ranji Trophy. I want to play for India A and ultimately represent India in Test cricket,” he said.
