As part of their statement confirming which players will be leaving the club at the end of the year, Championship side Goole Vikings stated that some of their exits will be moving to Super League. Goole have made two statements in the past week, the first of which confirmed that four players would be retiring from the game now that their season is over, having missed the play-offs. One of that quartet was Brett Ferres, the former Bradford, Castleford, Huddersfield and Leeds forward who will hang up his boots at the age of 40. However, a second statement has confirmed which players will move on to pastures new at the end of the season, with some players making the step up to the top flight. Cooper Howlett, Jeylan Hodgson and Connor Barley have all landed moves to Super League clubs next year, though the Vikings failed to announce where they would be going. It was exclusively revealed by Serious About Rugby League that Hodgson has a deal in place to join Huddersfield Giants in 2027, though the other two are still awaiting confirmation. Howlett is a versatile outside back who hails from Australia, and, having come through the Queensland Cup system, has spent time at Whitehaven before making the move to Goole. Barley came through the system at Hull KR and made four Super League appearances in 2022 and 2023. He moved to Featherstone Rovers for seasons 2024 and 2025, before that spell, combined with a short-term deal at London, earned him a move to Goole this year, where he has scored 20 tries in 23 games. Confirming the trio’s Super League exits, Vikings Director James Clark said: “We’re particularly proud to see Cooper, Jeylan and Connor earn opportunities in Super League. “We want the club to be a place where talented and ambitious players can develop, perform and progress their careers, so to see three of our players make that step is something the whole club should be very proud of.” Also leaving the club are Jack Miller, Ben Hodder and Baily Tait, all of whom are taking time away from the game to pursue other opportunities. Hull FC academy graduate Nick Staveley departs to take up an opportunity in West Yorkshire.
