Wausau West volleyball beats Newman, Rapids soccer wins on the road Wausau West beat Newman in ‘Sunshine Slam’, a fundraiser for those affected by childhood cancer WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - The high school sports season is off and running. On their first day of school, Wausau West hosted volleyball and boys soccer on campus. First, on the volleyball court, the Warriors topped Newman 3-1. It was also the ‘Sunshine Slam’, as the match helped raise money for those affected by childhood cancer. West is next in action on Thursday against Wisconsin Rapids. Newman will play Eau Claire Memorial on Saturday. On the pitch, Wisconsin Rapids grabbed a win in the first Valley match of the year, beating West 2-0. Deegan Armagost got the scoring going for the Red Raiders with his goal in the first half. Rapids is now 2-1-1 and will play SPASH next on Thursday. West drops to 2-2. Their next game is against De Pere, also on Thursday.
