The move had been chased for weeks and was finally completed. On the other hand, Fernandez-Pardo’s arrival unlocked the exit of Nick Woltemade. He has joined Juventus on a straight loan deal. It feels like the best move for all parties involved. Also, Newcastle United quietly got Sean Neave a loan move to Wolves. That should give him a chance to develop in the Championship before returning to St James’ Park. But that does not mean that the club were able to tick off all the boxes. And there is one where they clearly should have been able to do more. Nick Pope set to continue at Newcastle United despite no role According to the Daily Mail, Nick Pope will be staying at Newcastle United. There had been attempts to get him a last-minute move all day but it could not be done. Pope has been told he is surplus to requirements at Newcastle United. The England international is now set to stay and train. Only injuries would see him return to the squad. Of course, this is far from ideal. For a player who has done so well for the club for so long, it would have been best if the Magpies had been able to find him a solution this summer. But for one reason or another, an exit did not happen. Then again, the goalkeeper is a vital spot. Rarely will clubs be looking to strengthen there this late in the summer window. What does the future hold for Pope? Now, it is very likely that Pope will spend the next half-a-season in the reserves unless something unexpected happens. This is the final year on his contract at Newcastle United. Newcastle United signed two goalkeepers this summer to push Pope out of the first-team plans. Lukas Hornicek is the number one. Ewen Jaouen is his cover option. And the Englishman no longer has a role. Pope had been linked with clubs all summer. Ipswich Town were suggested as an option for so long. There were links with Celtic as well. Ultimately, none of that ended up happening though. As a result, he is now set to continue at Newcastle United even though there is no role for him at the club any longer.
