Kofi Kingston and Austin Creed have revealed that their AEW contracts were not finalized until less than 24 hours before their All In appearance. The former WWE stars discussed the last-minute deal during a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show. Kofi explained that while the agreement had been in the works, nothing became official until shortly before the show. “You talk about it being the worst kept secret, but the funny thing is, it didn’t really solidify and become official until less than 24 hours before the show. We didn’t sign until less than 24 hours before. We knew what we wanted and we knew what everybody else wanted, but it wasn’t officially official until very soon before the kick off time,” Kofi said. Creed was then asked what caused the negotiations to take so long. He explained that both sides wanted to make sure everything was in order before finalizing the agreements. “It was making sure everything was copacetic for everybody all the way around. It was a very smooth contract negotiation. We had video chats, but being able to sit down in person and talk was incredible. To do that at the same time as signing the contract worked out pretty well,” Creed said. Rather than accepting the new agreements, the two opted to move on from WWE and pursue a new opportunity in AEW. The former WWE stars quickly made an impact at AEW All In. Kofi, Creed and Strickland captured the AEW World Trios Championship, giving the former New Day members their first major championship victory in their new promotion. The New Level will now put their titles on the line this week on AEW Dynamite. Kingston, Creed and Strickland are scheduled to defend the AEW World Trios Championship against The Rascalz.
