Adam Idah's second goal of the season helped Swansea to go top of the EFL Championship as the south Wales outfit beat Watford 2-0. Republic of Ireland striker Idah and Eom Ji-sung grabbed first-half goals as Swansea made it 10 points from four games, leapfrogging Charlton and Wolves to take over at the summit. It also meant Watford lost their unbeaten league record after beating Southampton and drawing against Wrexham and West Ham. Watford showed plenty of intent throughout but were unable to remedy the situation after a difficult opening half-hour in which Swansea oozed confidence and class. Before kick-off paid Swansea tribute to their former manager Kenny Jackett, who died in June at the age of 64. Jackett spent his entire playing career at Watford with 428 appearances for the Hornets and his family were in attendance at Swansea.com Stadium. Ireland international Sammie Szmodics also scored his second of the season to help Derby County pick up their first victory over the campaign. They beat Portsmouth 2-0 at Fratton Park. Pompey dominated possession and had 19 shots to the Rams seven, but Josh Eustace's side were ruthless when it counted and deservedly left the south coast with three points. Derby took the lead with their first meaningful attack in the 16th minute after an excellent run down the right from Bobby Clark saw him pull the ball back to Szmodics, who cleverly spun his defender and fired low into the near post. Jason Knight played the full game as Bristol City got past Preston, the Irish midfielder skippering his side to a 3-1 victory at Deepdale. It was two late goals which helped City secure back-to-back Championship wins as they saw off a spirited Preston outfit. Scott Twine had tapped Bristol into a fourth-minute lead but the Lilywhites fought back strongly and Caleb Wiley slammed them level with a 51st-minute rocket. Lisav Eissat's looping 79th-minute header crushed North End hearts before Dom Ballard coolly bagged his second goal of the season, albeit less spectacularly than his stunner against Birmingham, to secure the victory seven minutes later. Andy Moran made a late substitute appearance for The Lilywhites, his first league appearance of the season. Divine Mukasa scored twice as West Ham beat Wolves 4-2 to pick up their first three points since last season's relegation to the Championship. Wolves, who also went down from the Premier League last term, could have gone top with a victory but ended up losing for the first time under new manager Cesar Peixoto. Jarrod Bowen and Konstantinos Mavropanos also scored for the hosts, with Marshall Munetsi and Mavropanos’ own goal replying for Wolves. The win eased the pressure on manager Nuno Espirito Santo on a night when Amanda Staveley, who is heading a consortium looking to buy a significant stake in West Ham, was at the London Stadium. Finn Azaz helped Southampton to a 1-1 draw with Birmingham City at St Andrews, as August Priske earned City a point against the Saints in a breathless encounter. The Danish striker's neat header in the 55th minute cancelled out new signing Keven Schlotterbeck’s towering aerial effort in the third minute of time added on at the end of the first half. Birmingham should have had more for their efforts having had the lion’s share of a glut of chances, with Jay Stansfield missing two sitters, including hitting the post. Tom Cannon got the last half an hour for Sheffield United, in a period when they came from one down to beat Bolton 3-2 at Bramall Lane. Romelle Donovan was the hero for United, grabbing the winner in time added on Xavier Simons struck inside the opening minute and Sam Dalby was also on target for the visitors, but United twice hit back to level with goals from Japhet Tanganga and Patrick Bamford before Donovan's dramatic goal secured all three points for Chris Wilder’s men. Gavin Bazunu's wait for his Wanderers debut goes on as the Ireland international was named on the bench for the visitors. Mason Melia got some late minutes as Lincoln were held scoreless by Blackburn Rovers. It was the first competitive fixture between the clubs at Sincil Bank since 1973. But the Imps saw their chances of making it an impressive hat-trick of successive Championship wins go begging. Both sides had chances, but it was ultimately a game lacking real quality in front of goal. Ethan Galbraith earned Stoke their first points of the season with a 1-0 victory over Norwich at the bet365 Stadium. Bosun Lawal played the full 90 minutes, starting his third game after an injury last month. The Potters had lost all three of their opening league games, including Saturday's 4-1 loss at Wolves, conceding nine goals in the process. Stoke had only won three times in the league since Norwich’s 1-0 victory at the bet365 on January 4, a run of 23 games. After picking up their first win of the season with an impressive 4-1 victory over Burnley on Saturday, Norwich were condemned to their third defeat in four matches, leaving them also with just three points.
