We are merely hours away from the summer transfer window closing, at least for English clubs. The time has just flown by. And a lot has happened at Newcastle United over that time. Firstly, one has to recognise the sheer amount of changes that have taken place. This is not a complete rebuild but not far from it either. The club’s three best players have left alongside long-time manager Eddie Howe. And not only have they brought in a new manager in the form of Matthias Jaissle but completely transformed their transfer policy as well. Could there be one final twist in the tale for Newcastle United, just when it had looked like they were done for the summer? Could there be one last-minute signing? Newcastle United linked with Norwegian midfielder According to Norwegian channel TV2 (via Football FanCast), Newcastle United are one of a number of teams interested in Djurgarden’s Bo Hegland. Newcastle United are believed to have sent officials to watch the player in Djurgarden’s 4-0 win over Mjallby on Monday. The attacking midfielder ended up providing two assists. Anderlecht and Lorient are also interested in signing Hegland. That being said, the player is in no rush to leave and a deal before the deadline is far from certain. And if you ask me, it is hard to see any further incomings or outgoings happening at Newcastle United, with less than a couple of hours left to go until the deadline. At the same time, this could be a player worth keeping an eye on for the future. Was Newcastle’s transfer window a success? Newcastle United’s transfer window cannot be judged yet. Up until a few weeks ago, it was seen as a failure by most people. And understandably so. The club saw key players leave and were not able to bring in many established names in return. The only one they ended up signing is Nico Gonzalez, and even he was not a ‘star’ in Manchester City colours. At the same time though, the outlook on the transfer window is much more positive right now because of the early season results. But that mood can change quickly if things go wrong in the weeks to come. So, any kind of judgment right now would be reactionary. Let us wait and see how these new players perform over the next few months at the very least and where Newcastle United stand in the Premier League table after a dozen or so games have been played.
