Liverpool appear to have sprung into life in the transfer market given the groundswell of reports linking the Reds with several players over the last few days.
Since Saturday, Liverpool have been linked with more players than in the previous 10 days combined.
Until recently, Bradley Barcola was the only player that Liverpool were concretely linked with, but now we have seen a multitude of reports emerge, suggesting that the Reds are moving into a higher gear with their recruitment.
It’s a good thing too – the transfer window will slam shut on 1 September at 11 pm, which leaves little over three weeks to complete several signings if Andoni Iraola is going to be properly equipped for the gruelling season ahead.
Now, links to Ajax star forward Mika Godts are emerging, but pursuing the Belgian would put any chance of signing Bradley Barcola at risk.
Liverpool “following” Mika Godts with interest despite PSG interest
According to journalist Sebastien Vidal, Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Godts despite PSG being advanced in their pursuit of the Ajax star.
Vidal reports: “PSG isn’t letting go of Mika Godts. After the rejection of a first offer of €45M, the Parisian club is preparing a new proposal.
“Ajax is expecting around €65M, while the Belgian winger, already in agreement with Paris, is pushing to speed up the negotiations.
“Liverpool is also following the file.”
It doesn’t make sense for Liverpool to hijack Godts signing given ongoing talks with PSG for Bradley Barcola
As exciting a talent as Godts is, it would be destructive to the ongoing talks for Bradley Barcola for Liverpool to swoop in and sign one of his replacements.
PSG are also trying to sign Maghnes Akliouche, who combined with Godts, could replace the impact that Barcola has had at the Parc des Princes.
But to sign Godts, Liverpool would need to be prepared to risk the goodwill that exists between PSG and Liverpool executives, which would put any chance of reducing the £145m asking price that the Parisians are seeking for Barcola.
Godts is undeniably an exciting talent given his 17 goals and 12 assists in 32 games for Ajax in the Eredivisie last season, but signing him is by no means worth risking signing Barcola.
