West Ham United have completed the signing of Nottingham Forest defender Felipe Rodrigues da Silva on a season-long loan.
The 25-year-old Brazilian centre half, better known simply as 'Morato' moves from the East Midlands to east London two years after relocating to England in order to join Forest from Benfica. And Morato, who played under Hammers boss Nuno Espirito Santo during his spell at the City Ground revealed he was happy to be facing the prospect of more regular first team football while with the Hammers.
"It's a very good feeling to be a Hammer," said Morato, who will wear the number 5 shirt. "It's a pleasure and I hope I can contribute to this great team. I'm here to help this team get back to where it should be and get back to the Premier League as soon as possible."
Explaining his particular strengths, Morato added: "I'm a very hard-working guy, a strong player, technical and I work a lot. I want to help my teammates. I always want to win, I don't like to lose.
Nils Koppen, who led the project to bring the defender to West Ham alluded to the player's strength and experience as two key assets which led to Morato being identified as a potential target.
"He is a powerful, reliable defender, with big club experience and familiarity with English football and is someone we believe will fit in well to the group. A good character who is again very motivated to help us achieve our objectives.
"We are really pleased to welcome Morato to West Ham United and we think he will be a really positive addition to the squad."
Morato becomes West Ham’s seventh new first team squad arrival this summer following Joel Veltman (from Brighton), Manor Solomon (Tottenham), Championship-record signing Arne Engels (Celtic), Joel Piroe (Leeds Utd), Divine Mukasa (Manchester City) and Edvin Austbo (Viking FK).
The club also converted Venezuela midfielder Keiber Lamadrid's loan to a permanent deal.
