Stenhousemuir Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player, coach and club secretary Jimmy Richardson, who died on 31 August 2026 at the age of 87. Born on 12 October 1938, Jimmy joined the Warriors from Camelon Juniors in 1958 and went on to represent the club more than 400 times across two spells, interrupted only by a period living in Australia. Recognised as Stenhousemuir’s record appearance holder, Jimmy’s remarkable longevity was matched by his unwavering commitment whenever he pulled on the maroon shirt. One of the defining moments of his career came during the 1972/73 season. After Rangers had won the opening leg of their League Cup tie at Ochilview, Jimmy was part of the Warriors side that travelled to Ibrox and recorded a memorable 2–1 victory on 4 October 1972. His final appearance for Stenhousemuir came against Montrose in April 1973, when he signed off his senior career in fitting fashion by finding the net. He subsequently continued playing with Plean Welfare. Jimmy’s association with Stenhousemuir did not end when he stopped playing. He later became involved on the coaching side and brought the same demanding standards that had defined his career on the pitch. He expected commitment from those around him and could become frustrated when he felt those standards were not being met. However, nobody could ever have questioned Jimmy’s own dedication: throughout his playing career, he gave everything for Stenhousemuir Football Club. Jimmy also served the Warriors behind the scenes, including a period as club secretary, further demonstrating the strength and longevity of his connection to Ochilview. In later years, he also retained an affection for Falkirk, where his father had taken him to watch football as a boy. Jimmy held season tickets for both Stenhousemuir and Falkirk until illness prevented him from continuing to attend matches. Jimmy’s record, commitment and decades of service ensure that he will always hold a special place in the history of Stenhousemuir Football Club. Everyone at the club extends their deepest condolences to Jimmy’s family and friends at this difficult time. Jimmy’s funeral will be held on Friday 11 September, 11:30 at Falkirk Crematorium.
