WWE Under Fire For Chelsea Green Booking, Finn Balor Recalls Frustrating Wake-Up Call

Chelsea Green barely got to enjoy her new title before WWE put her right back on the mat. Fans were already upset after the August 7 episode of SmackDown when Green lost her very first match as Interim WWE Women’s Champion, and now Jonathan Coachman has jumped into the debate too. The former WWE employee believes that the promotion broke one of wrestling’s oldest and most basic rules by beating its newest champion so soon after she won the title. Coachman argued that Rhea Ripley’s return timeline is unclear given her surgery, so WWE had no real reason to rush this decision. He pointed out that champions are supposed to be built up, not knocked down right after winning, yet Green celebrated with fireworks and a red carpet only to lose later that same night to Fatal Influence. Coachman also praised Green for turning years of rough storylines into great television, and questioned why creative keeps working against her instead of learning from her success. During a recent appearance on the “Off The Ball” podcast, Finn Balor opened up about two very different sides of his WWE journey. He admitted that leaning into controversy and playing the social media game harder would likely boost his career and standing in the company, yet he refuses to become someone he isn’t just to trend online. Balor explained that he prefers letting his wrestling speak instead of manufacturing drama, since faking a louder personality goes against his nature. He then looked back at his rocky start in NXT, recalling how strange it felt doing basic bumps and rolls in a Florida warehouse only months after headlining the Tokyo Dome in front of tens of thousands of fans. At the age of 34, Balor even told coach Terry Taylor that WWE was wasting his prime years. In response, Taylor explained that he was building a style meant to stretch Balor’s career by another decade rather than just preparing him for a few more years. Looking back now, Balor thanked Taylor along with coaches Norman Smiley and Matt Bloom for helping him adapt, admitting that he feels better than ever more than a decade later.
